hi guys,i m a final year student in SSUET (www.ssuet.edu.pk), i m going to write a network management tool, particularly LAN based,i have to add the following features in my tool
1.Work in Heterogenous Environment(Windows, Linux and HP-UX) and Sun Solaris if possible
2. Remote Configuration of Nodes(servers, Clients and interconnecting devices like Switches. Hubs and Bridges) but Not the router ( becoz then it will bcome WAN)
3. Configuring such things
DHCP SERVER,SAMBA,APACHE,SENDMAIL,
DNS,User Configuration .... at least all
those thing that are supported in Linux
4. Performance Management in terms of GRAPHS
Individual Performance of the nodes
Whole Network Performance
and the big SECUrTiythough i have about 8 month to complete it but i think is not an easy task,
pls help me and give me some guidlines
from where i shod start and so on..
Thanks in advance

Your project may become a set of tools to manage all that you have mentioned.
1. This question is easy...simply use Java.
2. This object is too broad. When it comes to configuring server/switches, it includes a lot. Some configuration could be achieved using SNMP messages. On a side note, switches are being used to implement WANs too. GigEthernet switches can cover 100s of miles.
3. Should be easy for Linux, not sure about Windows
4. For performance management use SNMP.
I would recommend, just concentrate on few things and try to innovate.
Good Luck!!
