I don't quite know where to put this but if you can help it'd be much apprec.
I have a compaq server and it has an onboard NIC which is faulty. You would think the simple answer would be to put a new network card in, but when I do this and switch it back on again I get nothing on the monitor. As soon as I take out the NIC it boots up again. I need to get this working with another network card urgently. Please Help.
Thanks in advance.

The NIC is a D-Link 530TX (PCI)
The server is a Compaq Proliant

Sam,

Several things to try:

1. Have you tried to put the NIC in another machine? Does it work in another machine?
2. Have you tried to put the NIC in another PCI slot?

Give those a try...

Sounds like the second NIC is in worse shape than the first. Swipe a NIC out of a workstation, servers are more important.

Might be that the new NICs IRQ is conflicting with the video card...

Go into Device Manager and remove the nonfunctioning NIC. Then restart the computer and run the CMOS setup and disable the integrated NIC or set the jumper on the motherboard to disable the integrated NIC. Then turn off computer and install the new NIC and restart computer.
