I am running Windows XP Pro and using NIC card Intel(R) PRO/100+ PCI Adapter for my DSL connection. Whenever I check the status of my connection by double clicking on the Network icon in the systray it refers to the amount of data sent and received in PACKETS instead of BYTES. Are there any settings I can change so that this information is reflected in Bytes, or is it strictly dependant on the NIC card. Any information on this is greatly appreciated.

Packets are a unit that contains bytes in side the packet, so it can be transported across the wire va layer 3 device, packets very in different sizes in byte sizes. If you want to see the byte count, you will need some type of a sniffer/protocol analyzer.
