For several months now I try to get my 2 pc's to work together via a network connection.
I have 1 older pc Win98 Pentium III 450 mhz and a new pc Win XP Athlon 1900+.I connet via a switchbox 10/100 mBips and use a dual Internet connection.
Both pc's connect to internet without problem. Only I can not make my home network operate. 1 PC does not see the other and vice versa. I have reformated my older PC and reinstalled everything with no succes.
I is only recently that I noticed that if I boot up my Win XP pc before the one with Win98 and go on the net, then when starting up the Win98 pc I have no connection whatsoever, no internet, no email and of course no net. This is not the case if I boot my old pc before the Win XP one.One last info, my Win98 pc is protected with Norton's Internet Security, and my WIN XP pc is protected with Norton antivirus only.
Can anyone help?
Thank in advance
Gilbert

If you want two computers on the net at the same time, you need to use a router. The router will pass out ip addresses to the computers. This will also allow your computers to share files locally.

i think you will find that your problem is related to the firewalls (unless you have set up your network incorrectly)
try removing the firewall from the w98 computer and making sure the firewall on the xp computer gives full rights locally, also if you arent using microsoft ICS (internet connection sharing) give it a try for your internet
one last thing to check, make sure they are both on the same workgroupif not drop me a line and ill try to help u further psy (psygenius@ntlworld.com)
