Because of our location, we can only get T1 capabilities. Communications company sold us on a single channel T1 as an option to DSL/Cable and proceeded to install the DSU/CSU and Cisco 1720 router, gave us the routers LAN side IP address and subnet mask (Let's say 65.7.23.193 & 255.255.255.248) and left without any help. We have a LAN with static IP addresses (192.168.168.0 & 255.255.255.0) & Windows 98/Me/2000 machines. Right now, we are lost and not sure how to proceed. Help!!! Thank you.

Chase them up and tell them to come and configure/set it up properly for you; should have been part of the deal - if your company doesn't have the expertise...?

Otherwise ask for your money back, and then get another more reliable outfit to provide the kit and set it up for you...

Another option is to hire a qualified 'networks engineer' type in, and get him/her to set it all up... A good one isn't 'cheap' - but you should get what you pay for...

lm-s is very right, they should set it up for you, and if they don't hire someone to do it. I don't have much experience with T1 (could you post and tell me about how much /mo yours cost, because i might get one myself). You also hafta share that T1 with me, (just kiddin :) ).

Thanks,
The Networking Man

The above posts are correct. They sound
like my local cable ISP. Show up, plug it
in, and leave. Luckily I'm a network admin
so can set it up myself (and would rather
do that) but I have had to setup several
friends to get online for the small fee of
rather copious amounts of beer. :)

I would agree that you want to get them
back to help set it all up, as this should
be part of the installation procedure.
Read the fine print on your contract. If it
isn't included, find an ISP that include
installation in their setup fee.

Got another question to add to this thread...What kind of info (ip's subnet...etc.) are they going to need when they show up with the router?.I have a second t1 being installed on Fri the 11th. I was not here for the first one, so, any input would be great!!!

Thanks
Tony
