I have recently bought a new wireless router (D-Link DI-624+) and a new wireless network card (Belkin Wireless G desktop network card) so I could share the ADSL internet between my computer and the family computer. The problem is that even though I get between 50-75% reception my computer always drops out and all of the lights on the card its self go out. The only way I can get back on is by putting my computer in and out of standby, rebooting or turning the PC off and on. Sometimes the network will disconnect after a couple of minutes or after a couple of hours, unfortunately it’s more often after a couple of minutes. I have turned off all power saving features of the card but it still drops out.
They are both 54Mbps 802.11g/2.4GHz so I'm pretty sure they should work fine together. I have 128Bit WEP encryption set up but I dont think that is a problem. What's wrong here? I spent a crap load of money on this an I would like it to run nicely. I am a bit of a newbie to wireless networking but I am sure everyting is set up right. Thanks for any help.

this may help, quoted from http://www.chicagotech.net/wireless.htm
Tips for Best Performance
1. Put your Wireless Router at the center of the area that you want to cover.
2. Don't setup wireless devices directly under a Wireless Router.
3. Setup Wireless Router's antenna(s) vertically.
4. Point wireless adapter's antenna toward the Wireless Router.
5. Keep antenna(s) away from radio/TV antenna(s), Wireless phone, microwave and metal fixtures.
6. Place routers and access points high, and as clear of obstructions as practical.
7. If there are more than one wireless routers in the same location, keep the channels out as much as possible.

Thanks blin,
I have done all of those except for pointing the wireless network crads antenna toward the router because there are cords in the way so I cant move it. But at the moment I am getting 70-80% reception anyway. I went to that site and read the 'XP Wireless Network Connection Drops Every Few Minutes' section and I disabled 802.1x authentication on my computer, do I need to change a setting on my router now as well? I can still access the network after I changed it. If the setting fixed it I will let you know. Thanks for your help,

Ok It seems to be working fine now, but I havent been able to test it for more than half an hour because the power went off for a while, but I have restarted a few times and turned off the router then back on again to see if it would re-connect and it has gone smoothly so far. Thanks for your help blin. I will let you know if it plays up again.
