I have been using the same Linksys Router for going on 5 years. I have recently been having alot of problems loosing connection so I decided it was time to get a new router.
I purchased a Linksys G wireless Router.
My home setup is like this.
Cable modem (Comcast)

Computer/PS2I had alot of trouble setting this up. I did everything from cloning my MAC address to turning off the firewall. At one point I thought I had it all figured out and fixed but then the next morning I couldnt connect to the internet again. Its weird also. When this happens I cant connect to the Router to review settings either. When I was getting onto the internet, it would be very iffy on what sites would work and what wouldnt. Im so confused.
Please someone, help me out/Point me in the right direction/tell me what other actions I need to explore!
If I forgot any information, please ask. I will give you whatever you need.

My guess would be a few things.
One is the MTU is off. Contact your isp for help in that reguard.
Might have a bad cable too. Thow them away and get new Good quality cables if there is any doubt. I see them all the time. They get bad at the ends, run over with chairs and such.
You should not have cloned the mac. Only people cheating have to do that. Are you cheating something?
Now, in fairness some ISP's won't allow either simple information out or simple changes.
Hopefully the setup ought to be something like this.
Cable modem setup by isp. Should have public ip at your side connector.
Connect the modem to the routers wan port.
Set up firewalling features in router. Consider port blocking. Disallow control from wan and other security.
Enable dhcp to lan in small range and say 1 day to forever lease time.Set computer to dhcp. May have to add in isp dns ip as extra in network config.
Use router logs and computer's event logs to help with issues.
I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

"You should not have cloned the mac. Only people cheating have to do that. Are you cheating something?"
This is not true. It is a common practice and even outlined in the routers manual. How would you expect to get on the internet with a router when the ISP is doing mac to ip filtering?
Steelreserve go to a cmd prompt and type ipconfig /all and post the results.
Did you disable your windows or 3rd party firewall?
Are you running Norton or other all-in-one suite product?
Have you scanned for virus's and spyware using the latest definations?Imagine the power of knowing how to internet search

Fast replies! I appreciate it.
First, No. I am not trying to cheat anything. When I called "India lol" the linksys people told me to clone it. If I am cheating anything, I dont know it.
Second, I am currently at work. I will do the IPConfig thing when I get home and post it on here. Thanks for the info. I scanned for viruses 2 days ago with the lattest updates. I removed Norton and currently use AVG. I did not disable it. I will try that. Thing that is weird tho, I had it running for 1.5 straight days beautifully, then all of a sudden, more issues.
Thanks again!

It may not be the router at all if you're suddenly having trouble connecting to the Internet. Try connecting your PC directly to the modem with these settings:
- Firewall off (Don't run this way very long!)
- TCP/IP set to "Assigh IP Address automatically"
- TCP/IP set to "Use DNS Server for WINS resolution"If you can connect now it's most likely your router going bad; if not it's most likely a problem on your ISP's end.
Sometimes the new router goes bad right out of the box. I'd do a hard reset on it and run the setup wizard again to see if that fixes the problem. Also, make sure you're using the latest firmware for your new router. Check Linksys's website for any updates.

Might look at other issues too. See event viewer. Inspect cables for damage. Look at taskman performance if it is too high. Use wireshark. Anti-spyware too.
Some routers try to protect your system but disabling ports for a short amount of time.
Just get the ISP people over to fix it?

I am having a problem with my Linksys router trying to get it to work with vista. It could be the base that I am on but I do not think so. When I plug the router in it tells me that I am connected to two networks but have no internet connection. So I go to configure the router and I can not even access the configuration area. I found out today that when I plug in another computer, it does not see that one either, but I thought that since it had the switch, I should be at least able to see the new computer added. I have a cable modem, with no cd for either the modem or the router. And I can not contact the ISP, I am in Japan. Is this BEFSR41 not compatible with Vista? I know that it was not terribly specific but I hope that I could get some help.
