Hello.. I'm relatively new to the home networking arena, but am doing fairly well so far... I've recently switched from Dial-Up AOL (ending a 6 year habit) and am now using Comcast for Cable access. I have installed a Linksys router to have (2) PCs connected to the Internet and to also attempt file/print sharing between the 2, using "Client for Microsoft Networks" (TCP/IP). I set up both computers for sharing but so far, I am only seeing ONE of the PCs and only ONE of the (2) printers on the network. I have named both computers to the same Workgroup but still can't see the main computer.. Suggestions?? My router is set up for DHCP connection, with DHCP Server enabled. I have NOT configured the DNS settings since I don't know what is what... HELP! Oh, and thanks!

Hi Matt. I'm using W98... does that open up any other possibilities or suggestions?

Thanks!

can both computers establish a internet connection through the router? If not then there's a problem with your tcpip settings. Use the winipcfg and ping utilies to test your network connections.

My suggestion is to convert to fixed i.p numbers and turn off DHCP! This means that you will also have to set your routers i.p. For a small home network DHCP is nothing but trouble IMHP.

This does mean that you will have to change some settings in the tcp/ip protacol that is bound to the network card you are using, ie setting DNS to the routers i.p and defualt gateway to the routers i.p

This stratagy solved all my networking problem like you describe

Good luck

1800-Linksys. They rock. That would be much quicker and efficient that trying to walk you through all the settings here.
