Hey guys, I am an intern at a company and we just replaced all our switches at our location in one state. The problem is, we are no longer using the DHCP server from another state that OUR computers use to grab their IP addresses from but instead we are using our own DHCP server and we've blocked the old one from another state. Today I received 10's of tickets about not being connected to the network The only way we were able to solve this problem is to give each of these computers a static ip address. If we just try a 'ipconfig /release' 'ipconfig /renew' using DHCP we will get an error that the computer is unable to connect to the DHCP server. Just for some more information. We have a T1 connection at work and over 100 computers connected at this location. For some reason setting each computer to a static ip with known available ips works fine. 500W PS Radeon HD X2600 Gigabyte P35-DS3L 2gb Ballistix 4-4-4-12 DDR2

Of course it works buy why would you do that? It will be quite the headack now the road. What you should have done: disabled the dhcp helper service on your router. That would have stopped the other dhcp server from ever getting to your subnet authorized or properly configured your local dhcp server. You never did mention what was providing dhcp.
