I just installed a new hard drive, got windows on it, but i cant figure out how to get the wireless working again. it worked before the new hard drive was put in.
I dont think i installed any wirelss drivers...where would i find these?
I ran wirelss network setup wizard, but it wants me to save network settings to a flash drive which i do, then it says to connect the flash drive to my wirless access point, which i think is the router, but there is no USB slot in the router
and yes i am currently connected to the wireless router with a wired connection.
You probably already have the wireless drivers installed. The Wireless Network Setup Wizard would have complained if it couldn't have found the wireless card. Look in Device Manager for Network Devices. If you can see your wireless adaptor there with no yellow questions marks then it is installed correctly. If there is a yellow question mark then you need to install the drivers.
The drivers should have come with the laptop top or you may need to download them from the laptops manufactures web site.
You can ignore the bit about saving the settings to a USB drive. Thats only needed if you want to set up another computer without going all the way through the wizard again.
With your wired connection, log onto your router and check that the wireless is still configured correctly. If it was configured before it should still be as installing Windows should not have effected it.
If everything appears to be in order, disconnect the wired connection and re-boot. Go to network connections and you should find your wireless adaptor there. Right click on it and click view available wireless networks. Your router should be one of them plus any other wireless networks in your area. Click on yours and click connect. You should be asked for a password or pass phrase depending on how you have configured wireless security.
so in device manager, under network adapters there are two things:
1394 Net adapter and Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigabit Ethernet NIC
Neither have yellow question marks, however under nework adapters there is another thing called "other devices", which has a question mark, and it has two things under it:
ALIM5603C and Ethernet Controller...both of which have question marks.
The 1394 Net Adaptor is your Firewire Adapator. The REaltek RLT 8169/8110 is your wired connector. The ALI M5603C is your webcam which you need to install drivers for.
That only leaves the Ethernet Controller which is probably your wireless card and you need drivers for it.
Thanks, i got the drivers and wireless is up and running, and thanks a lot for the help....however my internet is running real slow right now, and was even when connected to the router with a wire, and its just the internet, not the rest of the computer
