Hi, my boss is trying to go wireless and i'm trying to get a few good ideas out.

Basically we have 4 laptops we use outside on the field. Everynight my boss must grab them and physically sync them to his computer. The program we use is MS Acess and I believe he uses MySQL for the database and sync.

He would like to set up some sort of server and get wireless going. So the trucks and laptops don't have to go back to the office everynight.

He's thinking of getting Clear Wire or maybe verizon so the laptops can have wireless on the road. (were talking an avg of 30x30 mile radius away from the office)

So i would like to get some advice of what we should do. Money is not the biggest deal on this.

My boss also wants the data to auto update.

I was thinking of setting up win server 00 or 03 with a active domain and creating a vpn so the laptops can access the domain and the program directly. Do you think thats a good way to go or are there better idea?s

Four laptops would not justify, imo, having Active Directory or a domain.

What the boss has now should work fine.

What you do want is a VPN router that has client access software. You put the router at the location of the boss's server and the vpn client on the laptop.

The laptops bootup and connect to the wireless. They then launch the vpn software, input user and password information and walla they are connected to the boss's network.

This is also an excellent way of securing your wireless traffic.

The router would need a wired connection unless you can find one that is supported by Clearwire wirelessly.

Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search
