Has anyone ever managed to get windows XP pro to see the files on a machine running DOS I have spent a whole week trying to network with a group of DOS machines and although I can ping the machines and map to a folder on them I cannot get explorer to show the files on these machines on startup.
I have tried just about every combination of protocols and security settings and it is driving me crazy. Anybody any new ideas!
The DOS machines are running ms client for DOS and server for DOS.

Hi,

Ki> ...I cannot get explorer to show the files...File transfers were possible even before the NDIS-
based systems from MicroSoft. Explorer integrates
the FTP protocol and this is practically universal
in DOS environments as well but i prefer MS-Kermit
because it's simpler, reliable, lightweight, self-
contained, multi-platform and free... In terms of
speed, the penalty for using Kermit over TelNet is
hardly significant when i consider the advantages.Of course, if resources consumption doesn't matter
while user interfacing does, FTP will suit better. If only file transfer is required and LEGACY ports
are accessible via some HardWare Emulator like the
VMWare WorkStation or Virtual PC SoftWare, it will
open the door to more options, InterLink included.
