I've been trying to connect my brand new Windows XP tower to my Windows Me Laptop. I'm connected to a DSL provider through one of my network cards and I have the other network card hooked up to a hub and then from there hooked up to my laptop. All connections are being made with CAT5 cables. I've been trying to get it working for 2 weeks and have used every resource I can find. I've ran the wizards on both computers countless times with no results. I've gotten the Tower to show up on the laptop once, but could not connect to it. Any help at all would be appreciated.
Thanks

You have to have the same workgroup names

your ip addresses should be similar

Tower eg 10.0.0.1
subnet 255.255.255.0
Laptop eg 10.0.0.2
subnet 255.255.255.0

DNS on laptop = same DNS dished out by ISP to tower

Laptop computer will be set with a default gateway of 10.0.0.1

Internet connection sharing should be enabled on your tower

For simplicity. Use the same logon names and passwords on each machine

I presume you know how to access shares. (if not I have a comment on a question a couple above yours that will wxplain it)

Hope that helps
