Networking without routers or switc

Hello Guys I want to make a home network of three PC`s without using a network switch or router. The idea is to connect two lan cards on one machine make it a host machine and connect each of the two network cards with other two computers will it work same as connecting router or network switch for networking. Please help me with this issue

Or buy a switch. A router is only needed if you require Internet connection.
A switch wouldn't cost much more than a couple of network cards and is a lot easier to set up.

answering the question you use crossover not regular patch cables between pcs. You bridge the nics at the host computer. after that its just regular networking like same workgroup, same user accounts with same passwords on all, setup shares, etc
