Win98 Win2K Printer

This is really quite simple... Hook the printer up locally to the WIN2K LPT port. Install the printer. Install WIN2K drivers and make sure it is working.

Then right click the printer and go to sharing. Choose Share As and give it a name.
Below that you'll see additional drivers. Install the drivers for Windows 98 also.

Make sure you have a network card for each machine.

You can do this one of two ways.

IF it is only going to be these two pc's all you have to do is plug a CAT5 CROSSOVER cable from one NIC to the other and configure each with TCP/IP and either enable NETBIOS over TCP/IP on each or install the NetBEUI protocol on each.

IF you want to use the hub you'll need two REGULAR CAT5 cables and you just plug each into a NIC and then the other end into the hub. Avoid using the "uplink" port.

After that configure the same as above with protocols.

After TCP/IP is configured and you can ping each other go into printers on Win98 box and install printer as a network printer. Find it on the 2000 box and install it.

Thats all.

When I follow Mike's instructions I am prompted to get the Win98 drivers from the Win2K Server disk. But I don't have that disk.

Where can else can I get the necessary drivers to allow me to share the HP DJ 722C on my Win2 pro machine with my wife's Win98.

TIA.

Leonard

you can just get the win98 printer drivers off the web and use them to install the printer.

as long as the printer is linked to the network and shared you will be able to access it.
