I have been trying to set up a network between a Windows Xp system and a Windows 98 system. I cannot get the computers to recognize each other. I have the XP computer connected to a DSL modem through a Limksys router using the WAN port(modem connected to WAn port computers connected to other ports) I can connect to the internet with both computers but after 20 minutes the window 98 computer loses the internet connection until I reboot. How do I fix this and how do I get the computers to recognize each other?

Run the Networking Wizard on the XP machine, then create a setup disk. Take that and install it on the 98 system. Note: Before you install on the 98 system, remove all networking configuration and reboot, allow the system to re-install drivers as needed when it reboots. Now run the XP network setup disk.

i dont know how the xp start up disks work. though with what you said it doesnt sound like mis-configured network settings because they do work for a few mins then die out. i think its a physical layer problem, i would check the cables, modem, and even the phone jack. hope that helps

i set up a network between a pc having XP and another having 98 i set the share for both... from XP to 98 i can access it , but the other way around the XP asks for some pasword i donno what to do?how to fix that?
