networking two XP Pro machines

Hi, I've been having problems connecting two XP Pro machines using a cross-over cable.

I've assigned unique IP addresses to both machines, both in same workgroup and sharing a folder on both machines... but still can't access shared folders on both machines.
Both machines are pingable though...

They don't see each other in network places. I get error saying "the list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."
One assigned to 192.168.1.1
other one is 192.168.1.2

Have you unchecked the "Simple File Sharing" option. Might want to look at that one. I was experiencing similar problems to yours... pulling out my hair. The Simple File Sharing was the culprit.

Thanks for your response. I'm afraid that I still can't access the other machine. I can ping it.. It's rather strange.
