Okay folks, this is sort of a two parter:
First, the hardware.
Linksys RT31P2 Router/Phone Adapter
Dlink DI-514 Wireless Router
PC1 - Windows 2003 Server
PC2 - Windows XP
PC3 - Windows XP
Well, as you might have guessed, I am a Vonage customer, and I'm fairly satisfied with the service. However, ever since moving their router (the Linksys) into the mix, my network has been screwed up.
all of the PCs used to be attached to the Dlink pre-Vonage..The IP addressing scheme was 192.168.1.XXX. After purchasing Vonage, I moved PC2 (XP) to the Linksys Router with an IP addressing scheme of 192.168.15.XXX. I also attached the Dlink to one of the ports on the Linksys, and then attached the PC1(win 2k3) and PC3 wireless (XP) to the Linksys.
My first question and issue is this. I have internet connectivity on the PCs attached to the Dlink; however, I cannot see PC2's shared folders from PC1 and PC3...nor can I see PC1 and PC3 shared folders from PC2. Is this an issue with the IP addressing scheme or is it because I have a router attached to a router and something needs to be forwarded because of the built in firewall rules?
My second question (might be answered with the first) is, what may be a better way to set up this equipment, without moving the location of the PCs. I would like to keep PC2 on the linksys router if possible.
And in addition to this, I am noticing a significant difference in speed when surfing from different locations. For example; when i do a speed test from PC1 or PC3 (PC1 is hard-wired to the Dlink) I only get about 384kbps, however when I am on PC2(connected to the Linksys) I am topping out around 3Mbps....Is this because I am using two segments in my setup (1 router passing info along to another, slowing the signal down)? Are there ways to improve this?
Thanks for any help in advance
