Networking problem in file locating in IIS

March 12, 2010 at 02:04:24
Specs: Windows XP
An aspx file is kept on my system in the
C:/Inetpub/wwwroot folder. I am able to access it
by typing http://localhost:80/export2csv.aspx
in internet explorer.
But the file requires to be used by a lot of
people. So to use it everyone has to put it into
the same folder of their own system. Here is
the problem.

Some question..

1.Can I put the aspx file in the
Inetpub/wwwroot folder of server system which
is connected to all other systems via a local
area network?
2.Can everyone access the file using http:// in
a web browser by while sitting on their own
3.For that I have to change localhost to the
host name of the server and write port name
too? If I will change is it possible to access the
aspx file?

Please reply soon..If anyone else also add
some input.....................

1. If you have the correct rights you can copy that file into that folder on the server. Whether or not it will have the desired affect is questionable. You don't mention why you want to do it so I can only answer that.

2. Anybody who has access can yes. But, access depends on whether or not their user account, or a group they belong to has access to said folder.

3. If the server's hostname and IP are correctly configured in DNS then using the hostname of the server should work. Also, the IP address should work too. W

Whether or not any of this will work is beyond me. I have no familiarity with the software you're using. Hopefully someone who does can give you better answers. But from a strictly networking standpoint, I've answered as best I can.
