Fibre optic would suit your needs, or if you can get an uninterrupted line-of-sight, a microwave wireless link would work pretty well too. With each of these solutions, a decoder in each building would allow you to connect the two networks together seamlessly. I have worrked with both, and found fibre optics to be the most reliable, and the cheapest.

I don't know about cheapest, but fibre will certainly be a lot faster than wireless technology.

If those two mentioned are viable due to cost or access [would need to string a cable between the buildings to run the fiber] you might want to check into a point to point thru your ISP/Telephone provider. If you just want to xfer text and files 56K frame relay was for me only $80 a month. If you want to run apps you need a point to point which runs me $304 a month. You can always use your ISP for internet and do a vpn between the two sites.
