2 Choices;

1) Run the entire network under pure IP. Not always the easiest solution and has limitions if you are not running a server.

2) If you have a Windows server than set up "Services for Macintosh". Also install appletalk as a network protocol. Share directories for PC and Mac's. Printers can even be shared to both. This also creates a better workflow because files are centralized in one place.

WARNINGS

1) Win2000 is better at Appletalk Protocol than Win4.0.

2) Sometimes name appear on the Mac as "filename~". The tilde occurs when the filename is longer than 32 characters. The PC can use 256 I think.

3) People use the "DELETE" key on the Mac when they mean to use the Backspace. This creates problems for PC Workstations. The PC's can't recognize the delete keystroke and you will get errors like "Unable to find file" when you try to open it.

4) Most Mac OS can't "see" more than 1.9 GB on the server. Don't worry it is still there.

There are other problems but networking PC's and Mac's can be done. I prefer not to use MacLan because I had problems with it a long time ago.

One last note: I created my PC with Mac network 8 years ago. Through all the upgrades and expansions of Workstations I am still using my orginal Windows 4.0 Server. It is a PII 350Mhz with 128mb RAM/ 160 GB HD (I run both SCSI and IDE's using an extend drive partition, don't try this at home kids!!!), it serves 11 Macintoshes and 20 PC's (ranging from Win95 to Win2000). It has been running continuously for 3 1/2 years (I'm still on SP3), if Microsoft would like my number ...
