Hey ladies and gents,

Just another networking issue. I live in an area where I am unable to get dsl, cable, etc. and I do not want satellite. So, I'm sticking with dial-up.

Been using my computer. My parents just got theirs and set it up.

Now I'm working on networking through ethernet cards.

At this point I have it set up, she is able to access files I share and vice versa (when my ZoneAlarm firewall is shut ofF). The only problem I'm having is her being able to access the internet through this. I've read the support on microsoft about ips and the 192.168.0.1 & .2 and all that. But it still isn't working.

Anything anyone has to say would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Justin

Both machines running Win XP. I never made a networking startup disk because I haven't fixed my floppy yet.

Any more information you guys need just let me know, thanks again.

How do you connect the other computer to internet?

Well, I read on microsoft support site, it said something about clicking setup in the internet connection. create connection, connect to internet, manual, then through broadband/lan that's always on.

Thus it'll go through my computer, which I always leave on and connected. When it disconnects it just reconnects etc.

Just trying to follow instructions, might have missed something somewhere, but that's what I was/am trying to do. Setting the IPs and what not...

Anything else I should try?

Thanks for your response

-Justin

You'll have to enable ICS on your PC on the dialup adapter.

Once you've done that, your PC by default will have the following IP settings:
Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Give your mothers PC the following IP info:
Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway Address: 192.168.0.1

Alrighty,

Yeah I had the ICS enabled on my dial-up connection that I'm sharing.

Where precisely am I putting that info on my mothers. I remember following instructions and putting it where the instructions said but it didn't work.

Thanks for the help.

-Justin
