I was using Connection sharing on my two-PC home network. (Both machines are Windows XP)
I decided to setup a home network to be able to share files and not only internet connection.
Then the connection associated with the second card on my server computer got f*cked up and now I can't start it again.
I get this: http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/...

Of course, now I can't use even internet connection sharing.

What should I do to at leas make it work for internet sharing again?

Very simple:

Don't use Internet Connection Sharing.

Pony up the $40 or so for a SOHO router. It's faster, more reliable, and far more secure.

Or consider a free proxy that allows easy use of home lan and internet sharing. Analogx has one that I use but there others. Analogx proxy allows almost any ip address's to be used. It does have issues with socks and non-common ports.

ICS is an odd sort of proxy. It forces you into choices and sometimes is hard to repair sometimes.

The router could maybe be used if your isp can be configured otherwise it is another piece of junk to setup. It can be made to be secure only if you set it up that way. And you might wish to consider it.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

A SOHO router with a default configuration blocks all unsolicited incoming connections. It doesn't run a Windows OS, which is by far the most commonly attacked. It provides an effective barrier between the net and an internal LAN.

By default it is far more secure than plugging a Windows machine straight to the internet.

Sure, you can config it to be more secure than default, but even in a default config, I'd trust it far more for protection against unsolicited incoming attacks than loading any software on a Windows machine with the exception of maybe ISA server.

Not to mention, it's a dedicated device for doing this. If you instead install Analogx on a windows machine used for other things, like web browsing, etc., if the windows machine gets borked by a virus, or even the hard drive dies, whatever, all other machines in the LAN can't connect to the net.

Get a router. It's a far better solution.

I would say get a router and set up a simple home network. This is the efficient way to share Internet connection as the router price is pretty cheap now.

Thanks guys, I am not into networking at all. Don't need a router at this stage, nor i know how to set up one. Money is not an issue but the whole thing sound stoo complicated for a lazy fu*ker like muyself.
I managed to fix the situation and my Internet connection sharing is working OK now.
Any ideas how to turn resource sharing on without messing up the internet conenction sharing again?

Yes, you do need a router. You just don't realize it yet.

And it's not hard to setup. The dang things pretty much set themselves up for the most part. If you're too lazy to do it, I'd be surprised you're actually breathing on your own.
