Here's my problem, i use a hub and my isp has given me 2 different ip's for my 2 computers. because my isp is so wonderful, the 2 ips are on completly different and the final octet is not compatiable. Ex.
24.141.141.1
24.141.112.2 (not the real ips)
What ways are there to network these 2 other then creating a server or using a router ie are there any programs that can do it or any other solutions. Ohh ya i already contacted my isp they said turn my modem off for 24 hours and hope i get new ips that match ...
Thanks for the help

Do you have a compelling reason to have two public IP addresses?

One idea is to install (another?) ethernet card in each computer, assign the addresses 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 and connect them with a crossover cable. Then I'd use a non-routable protocal like NetBeui to share files/printers.

So each computer would have two IP addresses (one private and one public).

Are you trying to share files between the two computers?

Your ISP hasn't done anything wrong. Both could still hit the Internet without issue depending on the ISP's config. It's very simple to put multiple addresses (and networks) on provider sized routers.

If your trying to share between the two computers - get a router and use NAT. You really don't want sharing enabled with them connected directly to the Internet. That's a huge security problem.

bottom of page recommends binding file/printer sharing to a protocol like Netbeui or IPX/SPX
