What will I need to do if I wanted to network two computers together for the purpose of sharing one printer. Is there a way to do this without sharing files for one computer to the other. Do I still need a switch or a hub to do the job?

1 Nic in each PC, a crossover cable connecting the 2 PC's and setup print sharing

Don't network them simply for the reason of sharing a printer!! (or am I reading you wrong?). Just get a switch(splitter, junction box, call it what you want!)and connect that to the printer and the PCs to it.
