I work for a small agency, and we have 7 computers spread out across our 1 floor office. What would be the best way for all of us to share a printer? We are not networked together (funded agency = low funds), but i'm thinking we could share a printer. Any suggestions?

Get a USB connected printer and carry it from one computer to another. The simplest but not most convinent.

Networking them wired is the cheapest route. Most computers come with network cards if not they are really cheap like $9 ea. and you can get a switch for around $25 and the wire. You can just add network cards and the cat 5 wire if you cannot afford to do them all at once. Under $50 would get you started with 2 pc's. Then just add a nic and cable when you get the money to add another computer to the network.

You may be able to network them via phone line but don't ask me I've never tried. You could also go wireless but again that's kinda expensive. The router or access point would cost more than 7 network cards and a switch.

I cannot think of too many ways to share a printer on computers that are "spread out". If they were all close together you could just get a printer switch.

Or you could try something like this

I believe it uses the phone line and the cards are pretty cheap but I have never used one before.

Good luck

Well, in order to "share" a printer you need to be networked somehow.... Each computer will need to be somehow directly or indirectly connected to the printer.

One way:
If the computers have ethernet cards, you could purchase a hub/switch and run ethernet cable from each computer to it. You could then directly connect the printer to one machine and enable Printer Sharing.....

I know this is slim on details, but I don't know how much (if any) you'd be willing to spend on hardware.
