networking a DSL PC with HSCable PCs w/o messing up settings
Do you know how to add a computer that has DSL to a network that is running cable internet without screwing up the DSL settings? This is just to get the computer on the network for troubleshooting purposes, transferring files, etc. For some reason this has been a problem with some of the machines I've been working on. I ended up going back to DSL in the meantime ~ I guess I don't understand what the problem could be. I could see if they had Cable and I had DSL, but I don't understand this. I have heard this is an easy fix. Would like to avoid creating a new hardware profile. OS's on the DSL run from Win 98 on up.

It shouldn't be a problem at all as all the other clients in your network should be configured to get their internet via the DSL. The new client you wish to bring in should be configured for the cable.
The only thing you should need to do to the PC you're adding is putting a second NIC in it and you would then configure that NIC for the LAN with the exact same IP settings (different IP address of course) as the other PC's excluding the Gateway Address. Your additional PC won't require a Gateway Address as it's getting it's internet access from the other NIC which you should already have configured for the cable connection.

You misunderstood my post, I am hooking up a computer with DSL settings, to a network of computers that runs High-speed Cable. For some reason they don't want to "talk" to each other or the Internet, and then when I return the computer to who it belongs to - they claim the DSL settings are "messed up" - this has happened twice now. I don't understand why I can't get it to work ~ I've got to be overlooking something ! :)
