Hello, I have connect two computers together using the software buit into microsoft windows. One pc is running XP and the other 95.

The problem that I am having is that the two pc's can only "see" each other if I boot up the XP machine and then the 95 machine but not the other way around.

If I do boot up the XP machine fist, it can see the files on the 95 pc but the 95 pc can't "see" the files on the XP machine.

Are you logging on to the Windows 95 PC with a username AND password that exists on the Windows XP machine? Have you set folders on the Windows XP machine to be shared?

PS Don't quote me on this but I'm not sure 95-XP networking is supported.

Thanks for the reply,

I am getting a password box coming up on the 95 pc. I've just got the username as "Jonathan" and no password.

I'm not using user passwords on the XP pc but I havn't seen anything about a password to access the network on the XP pc. I assumed it would automatically logon to the network, is this not the case?

I have set up folders to share on both PC's.

I know windows 95 doesn't support the software that comes with XP to set up a network automatically but I'm sure they should still network properly.

Thanks for your help, Jon

Just thought I'd add that even when the 95 pc can't see the files on the XP pc the internet proxy server still works, so I can still use the internet on the 95 pc.

thanks, Jon

You NEED a password to get windows xp to network properly. Also are they in the same IP range?

How do I set up a password?

The XP pc is 10.0.0.1
The 95 pc is 10.0.0.2

Thanks, Jon
