After using this site and others, I finally can see both shared folders on my network.
The the WIN98[Desktop]is the Master Browser, I have disabled that feature in Win2000[Laptop]and a second Laptop [Win98]. I have a Linksys cable modem with D-Link wireless router. The Win98[Desktop] is plugged directly into the router. Both laptops have D-Link wireless cards for 802.11G. All machines have internet access w/o the internet sharing feature in windows. All have unique IP address [192.168.0.X] and subnet [255.255.255.0], Netbios over TCP/IP, NetBEUI protocol and file and print sharing is selected. DNS and WIN are not enabled. The Win98[Desktop] has a printer. Usernames and passwords match.
I can use the printer on all machines.
The Win2000 can see the both win98 shared folders and and the desktop printer, it can open the folders after password and see the contents.
The problem is that while both Win98 can see the sharefolder on the Win2000, when I open the folder there are no files listed and I cannot added files. I know that they are there on the Win2000 machine and that share is not password protected.
I am assuming that the issue is with Win2000 sharing setting. The Admin, myself and another person has access to the file on the laptop. The Security tab also lists the same users. All have full control on both tabs. The users on the win2000 are listed like \\Win2000\Administrator.I am guessing that I missed a step somewhere is the share settings.
If I can get this to work, then my second laptop [win98] can be upgraded to win2000 and reintroduced to the network.
Worst case resolution would be to not share the laptops and use the Desktop primarily as a data storage and print server.

Resolved issue.
Miscounted length of win2000 shared folder.
I thought I had a 12 character name, but it was actually 13.
