networking 2 computers with win98

i have tried everything... both computers have win98.. working network-cards.. all the protocols,etc have been installed... i had the network working 4 one day then zip!!! each computer detects themselves only and not the other.. have i missed a step?? advise on the proper procedure somthing that will last...!!!! pls send reply via email... thanks!!!

What kind of networking method are you using? like hub, switch, router, crossover cable, usb, LPT, etc....
I know from past expereince that windows 98 sometimes forgets about the network... and most of the time if you just leave the computers alone.. most of the time will find each other...

Load netbewi and tcpip in both computer and make sure you are using cross over cable and ip addresses in same range.then try to ping exch other.if pings then ur ploblem will is solved

guys, i use a cross-over cable, n 2 digi-5500tx pci fast ethernet cards, all are in perfect condition, netbieu n tcp/ip are set with the required settings [mac1: 192.168.0.1; mac2: 192.168.0.2; subnet: 255.255.255.0] the machines dont even ping!! hardware installed properly. it did work once for a day then zilch!!! what can i do... HELP!!!
