you can share the internet between 2 computers using MS ICS (internet connection sharing) if you are on W98SE or above. go to web site www.duxcw.com 'how to' area for details. you do not need a router or a hub to share the internet with 2 computers only, more than 2, yes. I have the 2 computer set up here at home using cable modem.

Same here I'm using Win2K's ICS with a 3 computer network. The only downside to using one computer as your gateway is you have to leave it on all the time in order for the other computer's to see the net and get mail. If you have the money get a router.

I also recomend going the ICS route. Leaving a computer on should not be a big deal and is actually better for your PC if you schedule some maintenance tasks to run at night. Also, you actually only need one PC with 98SE or ME because you can create a floppy disk with a little executable that you can run on you other machines for ICS.

Anyway, if you still go the router route, also check out: http://www.practicallynetworked.com

Good luck!

If you are hooking up only 2 PCs's the cheapest and easiest way to hook them up is with a cross-over cable running from one pc to the other. Install to nic cards in the machine with the internet access. And install one nic in the other pc. Hook your dsl up to one nic and your network up to the nic in the other pc. If u have more than 2 computers buy a SWITCH not a hub. You can get a 5 port switch for around $45. Go to Add remove programs click on communications, click details, click ICS (internet connection sharing).

Neither one will do. DSP uses PPoE connection authentication. Crossover will link two computers, but, then where do you hook up the internet to of the two lan connections are hooked up to one another ?

I suggest getting a router, Linksys has great Cable/DSL routers (linksys.com) which also include a 4 port 10/100 hub, both in one.

That's what I have. There is no other way no link 2 computers to share a DSL connection. These dsl routers have PPoE support (which means you setup the router with the username and password you use to authenticate through the DSL line). The router will, this way do it all for you, and keep the connection alive all the time, no need to keep any computer running full time
