What kind of software requires that two PCs on your network have the same name? This will lead to other issues, although Windows 2000 and XP are more concerned about IP addresses than computer names.

The answer is NO you can not have two computers with the same netbios name on the same network. This is just like having two pcs with the same ip address. Both get disabled.

Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Suggest they internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

Not impossible, just a little more complicated. You can't have 2 PCs with the same name on the same network but you can put them in different networks and use XP's built-in ability to bridge the networks in a 3rd computer. Requires 2 physical network connections in the 3rd PC (2 NICs, 1 NIC and direct PC-to-PC cable, 1 USB and 1 Ethernet, etc.) and some tweaking via the Network Connections folder:

Hm. The link has an extra "-" at the end for some reason. Let's try it again:
