I have a Netgear WGR614v5 router, wired the two comps. for internet (dsl) which works fine. I have run the network wizard on both - they have isp 192.168.1.2 and 1.3 and a gateway of 1.1. They each have their own name and the same network name. I have enabled file & printer sharing but cannot see the other computer on either one. Only its own. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
That makes you a genius in my book! That works. Now, I know I can't leave the firewall off, so do I check something for exceptions and turn it back on? Thank you so much for your help! I've wasted a lot of time trying to figure this one out!
Don't turn off the firewall! You can setup shared permissions on the files you need to access or better yet click start run and in the run bar type \\computername\ it will prompt for a username and pw. Some settings may need be applied.
kidspets all you have to do now is configure the firewall to "trust" your other pcs host names. It is easy to do.
jck472002 kidspets is behind a router so turning off the firewall is no big deal. Actually all you need the software firewall for is to tell you if apps on your pc are trying to access the internet. Most of us don't bother with that at all. That is right no software firewall if behind a router.
Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search
OK, you "guys" are great! I did turn the firewall back on, but I clicked all the exceptions listed. It seems to be working fine. Thanks so much to each of you for your responses and help!!
