Hi I am trying to network my 2 computer one has xp home that has the internet connection, the other has xp pro, i am using Realtek RTL8139 nic card, a dlink di-704p router, i have pulled the cards and resetted them, pulled the cards and rebooted without the card, and put them back in i can see the other machine, but cant access the files, the other machine cant see the xp home machine i have enabled file sharing on both. I have tryed to ping the router, with no luck, i also cant ping each machine. I have changed the cables around. I have read there manual and called them, but with no help. Does anybody have any idea what else i can try,Also there book says to disable dhcp but i cant get to the router, i am trying to learn and very new to this, also i am using dial up,internet connection, thank you.

what are the IP address and workgroup of the 2 PCs??

try setting them to "obtain IP address automatically" and let the router assign the IPs. Also they need to hame the same workgroup name.

I am having the same network problem!

When I try to view the computers in my work group I get a message that says

" (workgroup name) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is not available."
