You have to know how to interpret it though.

its a very thorough and specific program, if you have any knowledge in network security, and you know how networks operate, how data packets are sent back and forth, basic knowledge about binary/hex, and the TCP/IP or OSI models, this program will be your friend.

it basically functions as a data packet sniffer. it can even detect ping requests, arps, DNS resolutions, basic data packet flow, etc.

Yes you do have to know how to interpret, its not an easy program to learn from, but once you understand how it works, it can be your best friend, for good or bad purposes.

Check out Cacti. Just type that into google and you'll find it no problem.

Ethereal is good for sniffing packets. But for overall monitoring of your network, cacti is better.

Thx for the input!

I'm currently in need of something a little more user friendly then etherreal.

I need a program which assists me in interpreting the information and that offers a GUI to navigate through.

I think etherreal might be a good program to aspire towards.

Best regards,
g
