Network to our WiFi setup?

I occasionally sublet a room out & they often ask do I have internet, DSL, etc? I never used to, but right now I'm sharing a WiFi internet connection with my next door neighbor that he invited me to and I pay him (gmail).

I used to have a great computer consultant, who before he made a major career change, left me with other consultants and all the data I would need (supposedly) from my neighbor's system (and mine) that is important to know to do this.

So if someone needs to connect to the internet in the next room, they would be able to. I wouldn't know how to do it, and my new consultant does not seem sure for some reason. Feel free to ask me what info I have for this.

I also have a PC Laptop (older) that has an ethernet card. Just out of curiosity, I plugged it in and accessed some of my files (see previous question) which I want to transfer, but had no clue how to connect to the internet. All I did was plug it into the phone line but this system is a "wireless" system. Previous consultant said that that would be no problem hooking up to the internet, but I respect his desire to close his life to computers!!

Anyone know or have any clue so I least can say, sure you can use my internet.

I'd appreciate any & all feedback.

What's the current status? Do you have your own internet service or are you still connecting to your neighbor's? If it's yours, you need a router. If it's his, your tenant should see the signal and be able to connect as long as the neighbor isn't using MAC filtering or static IP addresses.
