Here is a network teaser..please help
Workstation can't ping out
Workstation can't be pinged. Here is how the network is layed out
[LAPTOP]----------[SWITCH]-----VLAN80----[CAT6509]
/
/
/
[DESKTOP]---------[SWITCH]----VLAN67--/
DESKTOP IP Settings
IP Addr: 10.25.67.160 /24
GW IP: 10.25.67.1LAPTOP IP Settings
IP ADDR: 64.128.194.162/27
GW IP: 64.128.194.160CAT6509 IP Settings PER INTERFACE
VLAN80 64.129.194.161/27
VLAN67 10.25.67.1/24The Laptop *AND* the Desktop can both PING 64.129.194.161
Neither the Laptop or the Desktop can ping the other. Other words if
the LAPTOP attempts to ping the DESKTOP it gets no reply. If the
DESKTOP attempts to ping the LAPTOP it gets no reply. What must be changed to the above configurations to make this work???
Remember that /24 is the CIDR numbering scheme for IP blocks today.
/24 == 255.255.255.0
/27 == 255.255.255.224

Where's the router? You need a router to ping between VLANS. I'm not to0 familiar with the CAT6509. Does it have a router board? Some of these devices, you can add a router module. You would then configure the router backplane via Gigaethernet ports.
In any case, you need to trunk your vlans into a router. Here's using an external router.
ex :
SWITCH :
port 1 : Vlan67
switchport mode accessport 2 : Vlan80
switchport mode accessport 3 : Trunk ------> in e0/0 Router port
switchport mode trunkROUTER :
e0/0.1
IP address 10.25.67.1
e0/0.2
IP address 64.128.194.160Make sure both subnets are in your routing protocol (RIP, OSPF, IGRP etc..)
Best regards,

In case you were using a router, what does the routing table look like?
"sh ip route" is your friend. This basically tells you all that can be pinged, not counting access-lists.
If you are missing subnets in the routing table, look at your protocol declarations, and static routes.
Sometimes the pings go out, they just don't echo back, or vice-versa.

Who really gives a rip?? (is that a pun?) :)
You need traffic routed between your VLANS.
Do we get a prize if we guess EXACTLY what you are thinking of?
WILL POST FOR FOOD.

actually it is a useable IP....it's static, but it's useable...I'll give you a hint...think mask...this is really an easy easy stupid thing I actually spent 3 hours on yesterday...by the way the "cat" is actually a cisco catalyst switch acting as a router...so my question is simply this...assuming that the switch is set up PERFECTLY and I can ping the switch from the desktop to the router and laptop to the router...why cant I ping the desktop?

Ok..

VLAN80 64.129.194.161/27
VLAN67 10.25.67.1/24To fix this, it's easy. I should have "elaborated"
What I meant is that .160 should not be anywhere in any host/routers configs.
The laptop's gateway should be .161, not 160.
This is because the actual gateway on the router is configured @ .161.WAY too simple.
You had me stressin there for a sec.Friends don't let friends drive stock...

sorry forgot to post that the last post was a joke....yeah but the whole point of this was to feel not so alone...i spent 3 hours on this yesterday....3 hours...and when i realized the problem....well.....yeah i felt stupid

!! Make sure the Catalyst is ON !!
hehe10.x.x.x is not a "/24" private IP block.
CIDR Notation should be /8Could you simply change to a 192.168.0.0 /24 block?
Keep on teasin..Friends don't let friends drive stock...
