I am looking at introducing switches to our network (6 servers, 2 sites, 100+ clients) to replace our stacked hubs. The trouble is, I am unsure whether they can actually produce an increase in performance, with respect to the cost of the equipment Can anyone recommend any sites that can help me. E.g. LAN design with switches etc.

Switches will always increase the performance on your network. You can simply have a 16 ports switch to split the trafic between your current hubs and servers.

a switch will direct data traffic only to the computer that put the request out for this specific data by looking at the table of mac adresses it has stored from its attched clients so you will save an enourmous ammount of bandwith on your lan in a star topology with a switch at the center there are no data colisions.where as a hub only broadcasts the data to all the connected computers so 100 hosts attatched to a hub you must have a lot of data loss .
