Since I upgraded from Norton Internet Security 2002 to 2003, I am no longer able to share files on my 2 computer Windows XP network. At first I was able to print over the network, but now that has stopped working as well. The 2 computers are connected to a router which is connected to my broadband modem. I am having no problems with my internet access.
I have tried all of the obvious things, like making sure I have the correct IP addresses for both computers, etc. When I attempt to access shared folders I get the following error message:
“Network is not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.”
“The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available.”
No matter what I’ve tried, I am not able to set up permissions.
I have run out of ideas on how to fix this problem. I have contacted Norton tech support, but they didn’t tell me anything that I haven’t thought of already. I would greatly appreciate any assistance.
Thank You.

"System error 6118 has occurred. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."
Symptoms: When using the net view \\computername command, you receive the following error message: System error 6118 has occurred. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available.
Resolutions: 1) disable ICF if you don't need it.
2) Open port # (UDP and TCP) from 135 through 139 and/or 445. To do this, go to the properties of the connection>Advanced>ICF>Settings>Services. For Microsoft file sharing SMB: add (UDP and TCP) ports from 135 through 139. For direct-hosted SMB traffic without network basic input/output system (NetBIOS) uses port (TCP and UDP) 445. Note: the external and internal port numbers should be identical. For more tips or information, go to http://www.ChicagoTech.net

read your post on computing.net. I'm not too sure if you solved it.
I had a similar problem. It took me a whole weekend to fix it. Here's what I did
On the XP machine that does not work.
Try
start
run
command
ipconfig /all
If under node type it says Peer to Peer
Then go to start regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netbt\Parameters
Make sure that under DHCP node type (1) not 2 is in brackets. If (2) is present right click and modify it to (1)
That worked for me.

After trying everything related to ICS and ICF (which were not enabled), I was able to resolve this error on a Windows 2000 machine by uninstalling and reinstalling
Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)for the Local Area Connection.
