I have 2 pc's with 2 10/100 Mb/s Nics's installed, they are linked with a cat5 crossover cable and both pc's are running Winxp. If I set the Link speed/Duplex mode to 100 full, data transfered between the pc's slows down yet if I swap the 'Link speed/Duplex mode' to 10full everything seems to speed up, any ideas how I can get max network speed using 100 full

Look at 1000BaseT and 1000FX cost more but you'll never have to upgrade. Except for the addition of a switch/router and god forbid hub

The cable may be unshielded and receiving interference from your monitor(s). (See if there is stamped UTP or STP on the cable. UTP is unshielded.) Keep the cable as far from the monitors as possible. Also, have you tried 100mbs half duplex?

The cable is unshielded techtony but runs nowhere near the monitor, however I will try setting the nics on 100Mb/s half duplex as you suggest.
Summary: i see what your sayin <vipergg> ive now set both of them to auto, as they were before i even changed them, which again set network speed at 7mbps rate... any more advice... ? Jaydiocity.co.uk ...
Summary: Can anyone help? I am running win98 on a desktop and am using it as the client for a lan network. I have a 10baseT network hub and netgear network card in the desktop. I seem to be having VERY SLOW (...
Summary: Last question first: compression does slow reading as well as writing. Network speed: keep in mind that a 100 mbit hub actually has a theoretical maximum speed of 100/8 = 12.5 megabytes/sec. One mega...
