You must know that wireless lan is a lot slower than UTP-network. SO there is occur more faults in the received data.Then the data has to be resend. 100MBPS is a theoretical speed, so you will never get this. 100Mbits/s / 8 = 12,5MByte/s. And there are other things 2.

If you are talking just about one of these small home routers your problem is you have speed /duplex mismatches if you have hardcoded the pc client nics to 100/full . Most of these low end routers know only auto and if the other end is hardcoded 100/full you have a mismatch because the router needs to see the autonegotiate signal otherwise it will default to 100/half which it will do if you have hardcoded the speed/duplex on your nic , set the pc nics as auto , reboot the pc and you'll probably see some improvement . Speed/duplex mimatches cause all kinds of errors and slow response .

One other note. On the wireless side, your speed will improve if you set your router or access point to G mode only (instead of auto). But keep in mind that it will no longer allow computers with B wireless to connect.
