I need some software that will scan a single ip address and tell me the computer name. os version etc..

does this software exsist?

http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/bginfo.shtml Check out this site. We use BgInfo in our startup script that captures a ton of information. We then have it write the info into an Excel spreadsheet. It works great for inventory control and static addresses.
