Hello

I went through the network wizard to setup a connection between two computers. They are both connected to a router. Anyway, the PC I am on now has an OS of windows XP. The other has an OS of Windows 2000. So, I went through the wizard and made the disk, went to my Windows 2000 computer and it does not work because:

"The Network Setup Wizard can only be run on computers using Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition, or Windows XP."

Obviously it is not compatible. Now, what do I do from here? Is there an alternate way of connecting these two computers.

I need help. Any help with be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

AC

i never use xp's network wizard, it sucks ass. you can do everything manualy if you know what your doing. I'm guessing whats happening is the you have a broadband router connecting the two comps to and the dsl or cable router together. but i need to know for sure how everything is setup before i help you setup manualy.

http://www.helmig.com

- and if the graphics display (which is partially restricted to preserve web-space) isn't adequate for your needs, try the alternative version at:

http://www.lpt.com

(and then go to the windows networking section lower down the page).

As stated above, Jo Helmig restricts the graphic info (on his home site) but for $8 you can both download the entire site... and also unlock the graphic display completely.

lpt.com seems to have an agreeement (mirror agreement or similar?) with Jo Helmig as the full graphic info is there.

Whichever site you use it should help you set it up.

Why using a router - is this for dsl/cable sharing? If so then perhaps:

http://www.dslreports.com

may be interest; perhaps even regardless? It's an excellent tutorial on dsl/cable sharing (complete from basics upwards) and other issues.

http://www.practicallynetworked.com

is another useful site; many useful links etc; also very strong on ICS issues, and sharing/networking mixed environments (Apple-Mac etc...).

I have the same setup: Desktop Host computer with Win XP Home Edition and Laptop/Docking Station with Win 2000 Professional. I made a diskett but got same message on my Laptop 2000 Professional.

Would appreciate a 'forward' e-mail when you get the answer as what to do...

Thanks,
Al
