Network Requirements for Computer?

August 2, 2010 at 05:35:13
Specs: Windows XP
I have a Desktop (IBM) with only one LAN (RJ45) port.

I have just purchased Canon ImmageRunner IR2318L Photocopier. In addition I have ADSL Modem and HP2025N printer.

I want to network these to my desktop.

Please could somebody tell me what I require (Router/Switch) and how to network these Items as some features are not available without LAN.

Currently, I am using HP 2025 printer on USB and ADSL modem on LAN jack.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Ashish

Assuming the printer and photocopier you mentioned are network capable.

A SOHO Router with 4 LAN ports would fit your needs. The external (internet) connection from ADSL goes into the WAN port. All network capable clients (including the computer) should be set to get their TCP/IP settings automatically (from DHCP) and then be plugged into the LAN ports.

If you have more than 4 clients, get a small 8 port switch and plug it into a LAN port and then plug clients into it and the remaining LAN ports.

It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.

Yes, All the items, HP 2025 Color Laserjet, ADSL Modem (currently connected to the LAN port of the computer) and the new photocopier IR 2318L are network capable.

Also are there any special steps or instructions to connect them through a router since I am a newbie for Networking and have not used LANs before.
Many thank for your reply.
