furustrating, don't know why this not working.

both pc connected using crossover cable. one using 2000 pro (laptop) and other xp pro (desktop). have created share on the laptop, but xp pc cannot access it.

windows 2000 pc can actually see and ping xp pc. but problem is with xp pro pc, it can't ping or see 2000 pro pc.

changed ip addresses to 192.168.0.10 and 192.168.0.6. Restarted both systems, still problems accessing or connecting

this is the message i get when i try to access it via network places on xp pro.

'\\matrix is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this network resource. contact administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission on network. path was not found'

both are on same workgroup, do not use domain. I take my laptop to office and uses the same workgroup.

tried winsockxp repair, still problem persist.

Any help connecting the two pcs much appreciated, cheers.

simon

I went through this a while back, 98 to w2k, and the solution was to create a user in the w2k.

The message reflects the lack of proper permission. Run the Newtork setup Wizsrd on the XP machine and the floppy on the other. Make certain to choose the correct options when running the wizard.

floppy didn't work , doesnt work with w2k. i think i tried 2 settings as well.

also created user with sane credential as on xp machine, still no connection

but for a moment i did get excited cause in xp i noticed my win2k machine name under my network places, but on clicking still gives access errors.

also interestingly i noticed when i do ipconfig /all on 2k node type = broadcast and ip routing enabled = yes.
this is not the case on xp no ip routing enabled and node type is none.

even tried downloading new driver for network card still problem persist. xp is fine pinging it self but not 2k but as i said for a moment after restart i noticed 2k in the network places.

spend full day and couple of hours on it yesterday, very very furustrating.
