Network Printing slow (for some documents)

Specs: Windows XP/7
I have an HP Laserjet P1505n printer, and it's connected via a USB cable to a desktop computer (running Windows XP Home SP3). I just bought a laptop with WIndows 7 Home Premium, and set up a home network.
There are no problems printing from the desktop. From the laptop, if I print a test page, or even a document from Notepad, it's quick. If I try to print a Micrsoft Word document, (with one line of text in the document, no pictures or anything in it), it takes 2-3 minutes. Any advice is appreciated.

There use to be a setting in Windows to wait for the application to finishing before actually printing. A holdover from dos. The print job is waits for an end of job or x time before starting to print.
