Hi yall,

Im not very familiar with networking, so give me a break if this is a stupid question. I purchased a Netgear wireless router(mr814v2) and wireless USB adapter (ma111). Downstairs is the router and upstairs is the USB addapter. Downstairs where there is another computer, there is a printer connected to it, i was woundering if i could use the printer downstairs somehow by using "add a printer wizard" on my computer which is on a wireless signal...is this possible or can i ONLY use the internet with this network ?

sry if that was written a little poorly. Hopfully you understand my question.

Enable File/Printer sharing on the machine the printer is installed to and share the printer. Run the printer wizard on the machine upstairs and have it look for a network printer. You'll have to install the printer drivers to this PC but that shouldn't be a problem.

On the downstairs computer, you will need to do two things:

- tell the computer that it is OK to share the printer with other computers. You do this by going into the Control Panel and double-click on Network. On that popup, you'll see something about Sharing Files and Printers. Set it to share Printers. This tells the computer that it is OK to share printers with others, but doesn't actually set any specific computer for sharing.

- next you need to set the specific printer so that it is shared. Go into Control Panel -> Printers. Right click on the desired printer and select the "Sharing" option. Select the radio button to share this printer.

Then on the upstairs computer, you will need to install the printer drivers for the printer. Before you start, you should test that you can see the downstairs printer and printer thru Network Neighborhood. Make sure this works before you worry about installing drivers. When installing the drivers, be sure to select Network Printer rather than Local Printer. During the process you'll have to browse the network to detect the printer. If both computers are Win XP, the upstairs computer may pull the drivers from the downstairs computer when you go thru Add a Printer. That seemed to happen to me with I setup my laptop.
