I have recently set up a network between 2 computers, both running XP Professional. I can share files and folders, and they can "see" each other without any problem. I have an HP LaserJet 4PLus printer, and I attached it via the LPT port on one of the computers - XP picked it up and installed it right away, I didn't need the driver CD. I then shared it, went to the other computer and added it.Both printers could then print from it. I was happy. Then, about an hour later, I went to print something and NOTHING. I tried printing from both computers, and the same thing always happens: the little picture of the printer appears next to the time in the lower right hand corner of the screen next to the time, and after about 1 second, it disappears. I get no error, and nothing prints. I tried all I could think of- turning computers/printer off, waiting a minute, then starting them again. nothing. I tried to unshare it, uninstall/reinstall -nothing.The only thing that was done in that hour was another computer was shared on the network. Imade sure the HP was the default, and was online. I also tried temporarily disabling the firewalls on both computers. I'm going nuts, can anyone tell me the solution????

On the computer with the printer, make sure your firewall lets other members of the network use the printer.

Suggest going to the Printers control panel and checking to make sure the printer is not offline, paused, restricted to certain hours of use, etc.
