After having re-installed windows on the 'host' computer of the 3 PC's in my home network, I notice in the folder 'My Network Places' that under the 'Network location' column the other PC's are listed as 'The Internet'. However on the others, (and also on the host one before the reinstallation,) the location is listed as 'Local Network'. They were all set up in the same way using the Network Setup Wizard.

My concern is that the host PC may be accessing the others via the internet. Has anyone noticed this on their home networks and how do I get the location to be recognised as 'Local Network'?

Thanks in advance.

They were all given the same workgroup name when the network setup wizard was run. I've also double checked in System Properties on each PC that they are all in the same workgroup.

Any more suggestions?

The pcs are not/can't access each other via the internet. Your local subnet doesn't go pass the router.

Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Suggest they internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

I've recently noticed the same thing with my two Windows XP Pro machines. They see each other's shared folders as "the internet" instead of "local network". The network printer and the router still show up as "local network". Strange. I noticed my iTunes shared library for my local area network stopped working around the same time. Perhaps a recent Windows XP update? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I just realized that mine is saying the same thing and was wondering if anyone had come up with anything on this.
