Alright I feel like an idiot for asking this but here goes. When you open Network Places the little flashlight comes up and searches for computers on the network. Ours takes forever. I watched a segment on TechTV about it and apparently the computer is looking for open tasks (background tasks) on the other computers. They showed a way to get it to not look for background tasks on all the computers (we have 10 right now) but I can't find it for the life of me. If anyone knows how to stop Win XP to stop searching for background tasks please let me know. I had it once, but formatted it and lost the fix. Driving me nuts. Thanks.

Got this off the net somewhere (possibly at winxpnews.com):
--------------- Solution to slow 'My Network Places'
In the registry, HK_LM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RemoteComputer\NameSpace
delete the D6277990-4C6A-11CG18D87-00AA0060F5BF key
Also, go into my network places and erase all of the mapped drives. Then go into Tools -> Folder Options -> View and turn off Automatically Search for Comps and Printers. ---------------
Don't know how much that last part will actually help, would depend on you network and mappings.
